ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY

Slalom Ski Foot

"The Slalom Ski Foot is the first prosthetic foot designed to be quickly and easily inserted directly into a ski binding – just step in and go. The Slalom eliminates the need for a ski boot and can be configured to fit most standard ski bindings. It provides flexibility, shock absorption and fluid motion without the rigid shock normally experienced by amputee skiers."

RHEO Knee 3

"The RHEO KNEE 3 provides the most natural knee function among all microprocessor knees because it continuously adapts to the user and the environment while providing excellent stability and safety."
  • Weatherproof design allows exposure to splashing of water.
  • Advanced actuator and resistance control ensure best possible resistance, e.g. more support in stair descent and minimum effort needed in level ground gait.
  • Effortless swing initiation enables a smoother gait, even in crowds and confined spaces.
  • Smart gait detection, including kinematic sensor technology, ensures stability and dynamic response in every situation.
  • Magnetorheologic technology enables an instant response so that users never have to wait for the knee to catch up with them.
  • Extension lock mechanism, to lock the knee in full extension and increase safety and comfort under specific circumstances.

Micro-Adjustable Sockets

This cutting edge technology offers a new way to adjust your prosthetic socket for volume changes throughout the day. The easy to use system allows the patient to simply turn the dial to tighten up the socket, instead of taking the prosthesis off to add socks.

A wide variety of design options are possible for each patient’s specific needs. Movable panels of different sizes are fabricated right into the socket. We may use one panel or several depending on the shape of the limb. To loosen the socket you just pull the dial out and it releases the tension.

We have now used this new technology on several prostheses with very good success. Patients are very excited to have an easy way to adjust the volume of their socket.

Adult Scoliosis Orthosis (ASO)

The Adult Scoliosis Orthosis (ASO) is now available at Northern Care. These low-profile custom braces are made from a plaster mold of the patient's torso. It has a soft interface and the outer shell is made of thin, flexible polyethylene, making the brace tolerable for daily wear. Though it is lightweight and flexible, when the patient is secured in the brace it provides significant support and patients often gain as much as an inch in height when wearing the brace.

The ASO separates the ribs from the hip, relieving pain and making daily life more tolerable for patients who have been living with constant pain as a result of severe spinal curvature, lung restriction, and rib-on-pelvis collision.

The goal of the brace is to reduce pain so patients can be on their feet for longer periods during the day. We are currently conducting an outcomes survey of patients who have been wearing the brace for three or more months, and feedback received so far has been very positive.

Turbo Med AFO

Northern Care is proud to introduce the Turbo Med AFO to the Flathead Valley! The Turbo Med was created by Francois Cote and is designed primarily for patients with foot drop. This type of brace is a great alternative to the traditional metal or plastic AFOs, especially for those who cannot tolerate plastic in their shoes, such as diabetics. With the Turbo Med there is no skin contact making this a good option for those who are prone to skin breakdown. The thermoforming design makes the brace extremely durable.

As seen in the video, the AFO is attached to the outside of the shoe giving it the ability to be used with almost all types of footwear. Clips are placed on up to 5 different pairs of shoes, making transferring from shoe to shoe very easy. Patients have been very excited about this new advancement in our field and we are excited to spread the word around the valley!
